The device i.e. optical tracking system (1) has a base unit (2) provided for fixation of holding devices (7a-7c), where fixable instruments (4, 5) are arranged in the holding devices. The base unit is designed as a sterilization filter. The holding devices implement new calibration of the instrument, during deviation of stored reference values. The holding devices are designed as rectangular cylinders and enable alignment of the instruments. Marker balls (6) are arranged at the base unit, where instruments arranged on the base unit are diverted from an arrangement of the balls. An independent claim is also included for a method for calibration of the instrument.
