A bale collection system (22) for receiving and storing a bale (26) is disclosed. The bale collection system (22) comprising:a baler (18) having a rear aperture (54) through which a bale (26) may be ejected; a trough (82) defining a storage bay (102) sized to receive one or more bales (26) therein, wherein the trough (82) is coupled to the baler (18) and movable with respect thereto between a first position, where no bale (26) is positioned within the storage bay (102), and a second position where at least a portion of a bale (26) is positioned within the storage bay (102), and wherein the first position is different than the second position; and a resistance element (138) operatively coupled to the trough (82) and configured to at least partially control the movement of the trough (82) between the first and second positions.
