DESIGN OF BIO-MUCOADHESIVE LAYERS LOADED WITH ANTICONVULSANT USING PRUNUS ARMENIACA POLYMER FOR DELIVERY THROUGH NOVELISTIC ORO-TRANSLABIAL MUCOSAL ROUTE
The current invention explores the methodology to isolate a biopolymer from the fruit pulp of Prunus armeniaca by addition selective non solvent to the aqueous extract. The biopolymer was used as a bioexcipient for designing anticonvulsant drug loaded biomucoadhesive layers for the delivery through the novelistic translabial route. The polymer was screened for its physiochemical and spectral topographic studies and inbuilt mucoadhesivity. The anticonvulsant bio-mucoadhesive layers were prepared using Prunus armeniaca as bio-mucoadhesive layer former, and other co-processing agent by solvent casting method. The formulated biomucoadhesive layers revealed significant mucoadhesivity and drug diffusivity through the biological egg cell membrane as a labial mucosal substrate for a significant extended period. The current invention explores the potentiality of labial mucosa as a novelistic platform for systemic delivery of API. This was achieved by suitably designing anticonvulsant loaded mucoadhesive biolayers using Prunus armeniaca biopolymer.
