This invention explains the methodology for isolation of bioexcipients from fruit pulp of Praecitrullus fistulosus. The methodology involves initial soaking of fruit pulp in double distilled water and collecting aqueous extract followed by addition of optimized and selected solvent like acetone and refrigeration of mixture to recover the biopolymer. The recovered biopolymer showed a polymeric nature that was confirmed by spectral studies. It possessed inbuilt mucoadhesivity and filmability. The drug loaded bioflexilayers were prepared by using biopolymer as a bioexcipient cum filmformer and other co-processing agents. The bioflexilayers showed significant mucoadhesivity, mucoretaintivity and drug diffusion for a period of 36 hours with zero order release pattern.
