PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for identifying an attribute of an implanted medical device such as an access port.SOLUTION: An identification system comprises: a marker 40 to be included in an implanted medical device 12, the marker relating to an attribute of the implanted medical device； and an external detection device 30. The external detection device comprises: a signal source 44 that emits an incident electromagnetic signal for impingement on the marker of the implanted medical device； a detector 46 that detects a return signal from the marker resulting from the impingement of the incident electromagnetic signal； and a user interface 36 for conveying information relating to the attribute on the basis of the detection of the return signal.
