A snack food 2 comprises an expanded cellular starch-based matrix including a wholegrain cereal component and a fruit and/or vegetable pomace. The snack food has enhanced nutritional content due to the inclusion of wholegrain cereal and fruit/vegetable ingredients and provides a sustainable and higher value use for pomace, a waste by-product of fruit/vegetable pressing. The product may be a chip made up of 35-50% pomace, such as apple, pear, orange, blueberry or raspberry, tomato, beetroot or carrot pomace. The wholegrain component may be buckwheat or millet present in an amount of 3-8% by weight. The product may also include potato starch. A process is claimed in which: a dough is formed, optionally into a sheet, comprising a wholegrain cereal component and a fruit and/or vegetable pomace; the dough is formed into pieces; the pieces dried into pellets; and the pellets cooked to expand to form snack food pieces.
