Disclosed is a method for controlling diseases on turfgrass (such as Curvularia leaf blight, Drechslera leaf spot, Pink snow mold, Rust, Southern blight, Large patch, Fairy rings, Pythium red blight, Pythium snow blight, Crown rust, Brown ring patch, Brown stripe, Take-all, Dollar spot, Anthracnose, Brown patch, Pythium blight, Typhula snow blight and Sclerotinia Snow blight) which comprises applying to turfgrass that has been cut back an effective amount of a compound of formula (I), wherein X1 represents a methyl group, a difluoromethyl group or an ethyl group X2 represents a methoxy group or a methyl amino group and X3 represents a phenyl group, a 2-methylphenyl group or a 2,5-dimethylphenyl group. Of particular importance is the use of representative compounds of formula (I) such as a-methoxy-N-methyl-(2,5-dimethylphenoxymethyl)phenylacetamide and methyl 2-[2-(2-methylphenoxymethyl)phenyI]-2-difluoromethoxyacetate. Further disclosed are formulations which comprise the compounds of formula (I).
