PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire whose distal end portion can be adjusted to a soft state and a rigid state and which does not require complicated operation.SOLUTION: A guide wire 1 in this invention includes a core wire 2 and an elastic distal end portion 3. The distal end portion 3 is fixed on a distal end of the core wire 2 and has a distal end contact part 31 which can be brought into contact with a subject and a plurality of auxiliary rigid members 32 on a proximal end side with respect to the distal end contact part 31. A separation interval is provided between the auxiliary rigid members 32 so that the auxiliary rigid members 32 move to an adjacent position where they are adjacent to each other from a separated position when the distal end contact part 31 is regulated by the contact between the subject and the distal end contact part 31, and a twist of the guide wire 1 occurs in a direction to a proximal end by having the distal end contact part 31 as a starting point and move to the separated position by elasticity when the regulation of the distal end contact part 31 is cancelled.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
