A temperature altering device for the treatment of nose bleeds comprising a cooling or heating pad having a facing surface for placement against, and effective to cool, the nose of a patient, and gripping jaws extending around and engaging with the cooling or heating pad which are operable to urge the cooling or heating pad facing surface against the nose of a patient, wherein the gripping jaws have a plurality of user selected fixing positions corresponding to different degrees of jaw closure around the cooling or heating pad and therefore against the nose of the patient in use.
