PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical image processing apparatus and a medical image processing method which can easily acquire functional classification of functional areas corresponding to nerve fiber bundles.SOLUTION: A medical image processing apparatus comprises an extraction unit, a first transfer unit, an analysis unit, and a second transfer unit. The extraction unit extracts position information of a nerve distribution from subject data. The first transfer unit transfers a subject nerve area based on the extracted position information to atlas data. The analysis unit analyzes a positional relation between a functional area in a brain and the transferred subject nerve area in the atlas data.
