Compositions and methods for reducing the growth of and/or preventing the formation of a microbial biofilm are disclosed. The composition comprises an antimicrobial SMR peptide comprising an HIV-l SMRwt peptide and a cell penetrating peptide (CPP) domain. In some embodiments, the composition further comprises one or more other antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), antibiotics, matrix-inhibiting compounds, matrix-disaggregating compounds, quorum sensing inhibitors, or a combination thereof. In other embodiments, the compositions are used for impregnating or coating an article and/or material surface with the composition to render it less prone to microbial infections.L'invention concerne des compositions et des procédés de réduction de la croissance et/ou de prévention de la formation d'un biofilm microbien. La composition comprend un peptide SMR antimicrobien comprenant un peptide SMRwt de VIH-l et un domaine de peptide de pénétration cellulaire (CPP). Selon certains modes de réalisation, la composition comprend en outre un ou plusieurs autres peptides antimicrobiens (AMP), des antibiotiques, des composés inhibiteurs de matrice, des composés de désagrégation de matrice, des inhibiteurs de détection de quorum, ou une combinaison de ces derniers.
