Erfindungsgemäß wird eine Kohlenhydratmischung für diätetische Nahrungen und Pharmazeutika enthaltend mindestens zwei unterschiedliche, lösliche Kohlenhydrate zur Verfügung gestellt. Diese Kohlenhydratmischung zeichnet sich dadurch aus, daß die Kohlenhydrate aus einer Kohlenhydratkomponente A, bei der es sich um mindestens ein Oligosaccharid (Monosaccharid bis zu Hexasaccharid) handelt, und einer Kohlenhydratkomponente B, bei der es sich um mindestens ein Polysaccharid (ab Heptasaccharid) handelt, zusammengesetzt sind, die Kohlenhydratkomponente A = 5 bis 95 Gew.-% und die Kohlenhydratkomponente B = 5 bis 95 Gew.-% der eingesetzten Kohlenhydrate ausmachen, wobei A + B = 100 Gew.-%, mindestens 80 Gew.-% der Kohlenhydrate der Kohlenhydratkomponente A und mindestens 80 Gew.-% der Kohlenhydrate der Kohlenhydratkomponente B präbiotisch wirken.
