The present invention relates to a use of phthalides in the preparation of medicine for preventing cancers from occurring by increasing the oxygenation levels of organs and tissue cells to prevent them against falling below the threshold oxygen requirement for cells to turn into cancerous. Though cancers can be induced by various secondary causes, including those of genetic and environmental origins, the only primary and common cause of cancers underlying all secondary causes is the low cellular oxygenation levels. Any cell turns cancerous whenever it is denied of ~60% of its oxygen demands.
