PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic that improves a skin barrier function to form a healthy skin while forming a flexible and stretchable skin by inhibiting aging of dermal fibroblasts, the cosmetic having a whitening effect together by providing various agents that have no side effects and is excellent in safety.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a cell differentiation promoter, a barrier function improving agent, a SA-&bgr；-Gal activity inhibitor, a melanogenesis inhibitor, and a cosmetic containing as an active ingredient a fermentation product obtained by fermenting Crocus sativus L. with lactic acid bacteria. The lactic acid bacteria is preferred to be Lactobacillus plantarum.【課題】副作用がなく、安全性に優れた各種剤を提供することにより、表皮バリア機能を向上させて健全な表皮を形成させるとともに、真皮線維芽細胞の老化を抑制させることにより、張り・弾力のある皮膚を形成し、合わせて美白効果を有する化粧料の提供。【解決手段】サフランを乳酸菌により発酵させて得られる発酵物を有効成分として配合したことを特徴とする、細胞分化促進剤、バリア機能改善剤、SA-β-Gal活性抑制剤、メラニン産生抑制剤、及び化粧料。前記乳酸菌がＬａｃｔｏｂａｃｉｌｌｕｓ ｐｌａｎｔａｒｕｍであることが好ましい。【選択図】図－１
