Disclosed are a device for controlling the operation of a sower by using an image sensor and a method thereof. The method for controlling the operation of a sower acquires image information of soil in a moving direction by using an RGB camera, acquires depth information of soil in the moving direction by using an IR camera, senses the status and location of soil where sowing is to be performed based on the image information and depth information, and controls the operation of the sower according to sensed results.영상 센서를 이용하여 파종기의 운행을 제어하는 장치 및 방법이 개시된다. 파종기의 운행을 제어하는 방법은, RGB 카메라를 이용하여 이동 방향의 토양에 대한 영상 정보를 획득하고, IR 카메라를 이용하여 이동 방향의 토양에 대한 깊이 정보를 획득하고, 영상 정보와 깊이 정보에 기초하여 파종하고자 하는 토양의 상태 및 위치를 감지하며, 감지 결과에 따라 파종기의 동작을 제어한다.
