To provide an apparatus and method capable of appropriately examining sensitivity for each color to respective areas of a view field in the examination of a visual function of a subject.SOLUTION: A target 5 for examining a subject's visual function relating to color is displayed at a peripheral area of a point 6 of gaze, with making the subject gaze at one point 6 in a background 7, such that luminance of the background 7 becomes a numerical value belonging to a range between a numerical value smaller than the luminance of the target 5 by 10% and a numerical value larger than the luminance of the target by 10%. The target 5 is randomly displayed among predetermined multiple measurement points 300. In the respective measurement points 300, the examination apparatus requires the subject to replay whether or not to perceive the target 5, when there is no replay, enlarges the target 5 in a stepwise manner and, when there is a replay, reduces the target 5 in the stepwise manner.
