The invention relates to the field of the treatment of plant material, particularly plant material for propagation or reproduction, for example seeds. The method according to the invention comprises the application, over all or part of the surface of a plant material, of an aqueous dispersion comprising (a) particles of at least one hydroswellable polymer and (b) at least one compound selected from a mineral salt, an organic salt, a dispersant organic polymer and the mixtures thereof. The invention also relates to said treated plant material and to the use thereof for cultivating or producing a plant.
