According to the present invention, disclosed are an electronic device and an operation method which can support a fingerprint recognition function capable of performing fingerprint authentication based on an intuitive user interface (UI). The electronic device comprises: a display including at least one pixel, and having an area of which at least a part is transparent； a fingerprint sensor arranged in a certain area of a lower part of the display in which a screen is displayed, and obtaining image information related to fingerprint authentication by collecting light which is emitted by a pixel arranged in the display and has a direction changed by an object accessed on the display； and a processor for controlling an image information obtaining operation of the fingerprint sensor.
