PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces the influence of discharge gas discharged therefrom, and also, efficiently clean air in the room, and a method for cleaning the air by the image forming apparatus.
SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes an air cleaning device 200 disposed above the outer case part 100b thereof. The air cleaning device 200 generates positive and negative ions to be discharged into a space (e.g., office space) where the image forming apparatus 100 is arranged. The air cleaning device 200 is attached to a support 190 via a rotary shaft 200s extending from the air cleaning device 200, and the air discharging direction of the device 200 is controlled by an air discharging direction control unit 148. The air cleaning device 200 includes, for example, a fan driving part 210 to discharge the generated positive and negative ions to the outside (e.g., office space).
