The invention relates to the treatment of anthelmintic infections in animals and more specifically to compositions that are effective against parasites that are resistant to a wide variety of drug treatments. In a first aspect, the invention provides an effective synergistic, anthelmintic composition consisting of at least one compound selected from each of the following groups: macrocyclic lactones, benzimidazoles, salicylanilides and imidazothiazoles in addition to a therapeutically effective carrier. In a second aspect, the invention provides a process for treating parasite infections in an animal, comprising administering to it an effective anthelmintic synergistic amount of a composition consisting of at least one compound selected from each of the groups. macrocyclic lactones, benzimidazoles, salicylanilides and imidazothiazoles and therapeutically effective carrier.
