The present invention relates to a method for producing policosanol from green tea leaves and an extract thereof. The policosanol and the extract thereof can be used for health supplement food that prevents vascular diseases such as cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, stroke, vascular dementia, angina, myocardial infarction, cold hands, cold feet, numbness of limbs, and impotence which frequently occur to modern people, and enhances stamina and muscular endurance. The method includes the steps of: grinding dried green tea leaves； mixing oil obtained by a supercritical extraction using a solvent and a subsidiary solvent, with an aqueous solution containing ethanol, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, and water； agitating and heating the mixed aqueous solution at 60°；C for 90 minutes； performing a fraction process on the mixed aqueous solution after cooling the mixed aqueous solution at 0-20°；C； separating ethanol by centrifuging a remaining solution； and concentrating and drying the solution obtained in the earlier step.본발명은 녹차잎으로부터 현대인에게 흔하게 발생하는 뇌출혈, 뇌경색, 뇌졸증, 혈관성 치매, 협심증, 심근경색, 손발의 차고 저림, 발기부전 같은 혈관성 질환을 막고, 체력증강, 근지구력 향상시키는 건강보조식품으로 사용할 수 있는 폴리코사놀을 제조하는 방법과 그 추출물에 대한 것으로, 녹차잎을 건조하여 분쇄한 후, 용매와 보조용매를 이용하여 초임계추출을 하여 얻은 유지에 에탄올, 수산화나트륨 또는 수산화칼륨과 물을 포함하는 수용액을 혼합하고, 혼합된 수용액을 교반하면서 섭씨 60도의 온도로 90분 동안 가열한 다음, 0도 ~ 20도로 냉각한 후 분획하고, 남은 여액을 원심분리기에 넣어 에탄올을 분리하여 농축건조하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
