The present invention relates to a feeder (1) for animals. The feeder comprises: a base portion (20) for holding hay and a meshed net (10) for covering hay held in the base portion. The meshed net has a plurality of meshes (12) through which an animal may remove hay. The base portion comprises: at least a first, a second and a third corner (22) being interconnected by at least a first, a second and a third upper interconnecting portion (24), wherein at least two of the corners forms an angle of less than 90° and at least a first shielding side (26) extending down/away from the first upper interconnecting portion. The first shielding side is impenetrable to hay.
