PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose a device for alleviating female urinary incontinence during a period of an increase in intra-abdominal pressure.SOLUTION: This instrument includes a non-absorbent urinary incontinence device having an initial cross-section area, an insertion end, and a trailing end. The urinary incontinence device also contains a compressed resilient member which is capable of enlarging the cross-section area of the urinary incontinence device when expanded. The urinary incontinence device is inserted into a womans vagina with the insertion end entering first. The vagina is a canal with its inner periphery made up of right and left lateral walls, an anterior wall and a posterior wall. The urinary incontinence device is inserted in such a way that it becomes in contact with at least two of the walls. The urinary incontinence device is positioned in the middle one-third part of the total vaginal canal length with the insertion end adjacent to the female urethral sphincter muscle. The urinary incontinence device jointly works with the female symphysis pubis to sandwich the urethral tube therebetween. The resilient member allows at least part of the urinary incontinence device to expand cross-sectionally so as to make it in contact with all of the four inner walls of the vaginal canal.
