A clot collection device for removing an occlusive clot from a blood vessel comprises a clot engagement element (700) having a constrained delivery configuration and an expanded deployment configuration. In the expanded configuration, the peripheral portions are laterally spaced and the clot engagement section (700) extends between the peripheral portions. Device (700) has two superimposed wave patterns provided by a large amplitude curve (723) and a short pitch sine wave pattern (721, 722). The wave shape changes the contact pressure between the clot and the device along the length of the device, thereby reducing clot compression by the device at several locations. It can stretch when the device is under tension, which helps the clot stretch during removal.
