A compound of Formula I: ** Formula ** or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; in which the continuous circle represents single or double bonds as required by valence; X, Y and Z are independently selected from a group consisting of>; = N-, -N>; =, NR1 and CR2, provided that at least two are distinct from CR2; R1 is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, SO2NR5R6, or SO2R5a, wherein each of said alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl and heteroaryl may be substituted with one or more substituents independently selected from between hydroxy, amino, halo, alkyl, haloalkyl, CN, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, alkylamino, aminoalkyl, - (CH2) ncycloalkyl, - (CH2) nheterocycloalkyl, - (CH2) naryl and - (CH2) nheteroaryl; R2 is H, halo, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, alkoxy, cycloalkyloxy, aryloxy, aralkyloxy, heterocycloalkyloxy, heteroaryloxy, CN, - (CH2) nNR5R6, C (>; = O) NR5R6, SO2NR5a6, SO2NR5a6 NR5SO2R5a, or NR5C (>; = O) R5a, wherein each of said alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, alkoxy, cycloalkyloxy, aryloxy, aralkyloxy, heterocycloalkyloxy and heteroaryloxy may be substituted with one or more substituents selected independently from hydroxy, amino, halo, alkyl, haloalkyl, CN, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, alkylamino, aminoalkyl, - (CH2) ncycloalkyl, - (CH2) nheterocycloalkyl, - (CH2) naryl and - (CH2) nheteroaryl; R3 is H, C (>; = O) R7, C (>; = O) OR7, C (>; = O) NR7aR7b, or (CH2) R8; each R4 is independently H, methyl, or fluoromethyl; R5 and R8 are independently H, alkyl, fluoroalkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl, or R5 and R6 of C (>; = O) NR5R6 or SO2NR5R6, together with the nitrogen to which they are attached, can form a heterocycloalkyl; R5a is alkyl, fluoroalkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl; R7 is alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, or cycloalkyl, wherein each of said alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl and cycloalkyl may be substituted with one or more substituents independently selected fr
