This invention relates to a bed comprising an articulated bed base with a substantially flat mattress support surface. The bed also includes a possibility of adjusting the width by means of extension elements, each extension element providing a substantially flat extended support surface. Each extension element is configured to slide manually and index with respect to the bed base so that the extended support surface remains substantially flat with the main support of the mattress.
