ABSTRACT - 593892 The disclosure relates to compounds represented by the structural formula depicted herein, which can be derived from polymyxin, including, peptides such as polymyxin B and the related colistin (polymyxin E). These compounds have antibacterial properties against a diverse range of gram negative bacteria and reduced toxicity compared to polymyxins such as polymyxin B. Also provided are antibacterial pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds, as well as methods for preparing the antibacterial compounds and protected compounds.
