An apparatus and method for treating genital herpes or oral herpes viralinfections is disclosed, wherein the apparatus delivers electrical stimulationto the skin or mucosa of a patient. The electrical stimulation is applied as aseries of electrical pulses having different electrical characteristics. Theapparatus may include a housing having at least two electrodes supplied withboth AC and DC voltage, and powered by a battery. The electrodes are designedso as to maximize contact with the patient.
