PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preparing an implanted medical apparatus for extraction.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a device for preparing an elongated implanted medical apparatus, such as a cardiac lead, for extraction from the body of a patient. The device includes a first handle and a second handle. At least the first handle has a surface for receiving the implanted apparatus therealong. A wire member having a first end and a second end is positioned to span a distance between the surface of the first handle, and the second handle. The wire member first end is removably engaged with the first handle, and the wire member second end is removably engaged with the second handle.
