Described herein are methods and compositions for the use of treating Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Aspects of the invention relate to administering to a subject in need thereof an agent that inhibits muscarinic acetylcholine receptor. In another embodiment, administration of an agent that inhibits muscarinic acetylcholine receptor ameliorates systems and defects related to SMA.
