The device (1) has a rotary driven picking drum (5) arranged to lift crops (2) from an earth surface by rotation and supply the crops to a crop channel (7) limited by blank holder rollers (12, 13). The blank holder rollers are rotary driven at rotation speed that is varied depending on rotation speed of the drum. The drum and the blank holder rollers are supplied with driving power over a common supply channel. The supply channel comprises a hydraulic passage over which hydraulic motors of the drum and the rollers are connected in series.
