A modular smart packaging case is disclosed that includes a reversibly attachable electronic module and a detection module. The detection module includes a sensor array for monitoring the condition of a blister pack containing multiple product units. The electronics module contains the high value electronics necessary to read the sensors of the array, process the sensor output, and enable communication with the case. The electronic module and the detection module are operably coupled via a universal interface that allows the same electronic module to operate with multiple detection modules of different configurations.
