PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst capable of efficiently exhibiting photocatalytic activity under the irradiation of not only ultraviolet light but visible light, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same, and an apparatus for purification using such a catalyst.
SOLUTION: The fibrous photocatalyst comprises at least a fibrous silica glass carrier composed of silica glass fibers, and a film of a photocatalyst material of a metal oxide as a main constituent formed on the surface of the fibrous silica glass carrier. The photocatalyst contains any one of transition metal elements as a further additional element except for a metal element of the metal oxide of the main constituent and/or nitrogen, and is responsive to visible light. There are also provided a visible light responsive type fibrous photocatalyst functioning as a photocatalyst having visible light response, the method of manufacturing such visible light responsive type fibrous catalyst, and the apparatus for purification having such visible light responsive type fibrous catalyst.
