The present invention relates to a specific antibody or antigen-binding fragment that specifically binds to kidney-associated antigen 1 (KAAG1), and use thereof for the purpose of treating, detecting and diagnosing cancer. Delivery of therapeutic agents to cells is particularly contemplated with respect to these antibodies or antigen binding fragments. Disclosed herein are novel antibodies and antigen-binding fragments that specifically bind to KAAG1 and can be used in the treatment, detection and diagnosis of cancers containing KAAG1-expressing cells. Also disclosed are cells expressing antibodies and antigen-binding fragments, and methods of detecting and treating cancer using the antibodies and fragments. Signs of cancer that may benefit from such treatment or detection also include ovarian cancer, kidney cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, and prostate cancer, as well as melanoma.
