PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus which can reduce deterioration in images due to eddy current generated by a gradient magnetic field, has a gradient magnetic field coil reduced in thickness and is equipped with a large opening portion.SOLUTION: This imaging apparatus includes: a magnet for generating a static magnetic field 6 on an image pickup region 9 of a subject 7 and a gradient magnetic field coil 11 for generating a magnetic field having gradient strength on the image pickup region 9. An eddy current blocking shield 15 is equipped between the gradient magnetic field coil 11 and the magnet.
