The present invention is concerned with a massage device (1) for the treatment of skin. The device comprises a body and an applicator (3) for contacting the skin of a user. The applicator (3) is mounted on the body. Further, a drive unit (4, 5, 9) is provided for generating a translational back-and-forth movement of the applicator (3) along a first axis (I)having an amplitude of 0.2 mm to 1.5 mm. Finally, the amplitude can be varied between two different operation modes of the device.
