The present invention is concerned with a massage device for the treatment of skin. The device comprises a body and an applicator for contacting the skin of a user. The applicator is mounted on the body. Further, a drive unit is provided for generating a translational back-and-forth movement of the applicator along a first axis having an amplitude of 0.2 mm to 1.5 mm. Finally, the amplitude can be varied between two different operation modes of the device.
