In an automatic dispenser for the dispensing of feed which comprises a receptacle (1) which has an outlet opening (2) at the bottom of a width (b) and a depth (d) and a closing mechanism (3) which is activated from outside and is mounted in the receptacle (1) so that it can move from a top to a bottom position in the receptacle (1) and consists of a plane intermediate piece (4) which has a bottom piece (6) at the bottom of the front wall (5) which is at right angles to the intermediate piece (4) and of a width and depth which is approximately equal to the width (b) and the depth (d) of the outlet opening (2) and has at the top a top plate (9) which forms an angle (v) which is smaller than 90° to the intermediate piece (4) the front (5) of the intermediate piece (4) is designed with two plates (7) which are at right angles to the intermediate piece (4) and mounted at a mutual distance and have a curved top side (8) which flushes with the front of the intermediate piece (4) at the top and at the bottom reaches in over the bottom piece (6) at such a height that when the closing mechanism (3) is in top position, the intermediate piece (4) is pressed against the inner side of the rear wall (16) of the receptacle (1) by a pin (11) which is mounted through holes (12) in the outside hinge elements on the receptacle (1) and bears on the top sides (8) of the plates (7) in which position the top plate (9) bears on the inner side of the front wall (5) of the receptacle (1) whereby the rear edge (14) of the top plate (9) is positioned at a distance (19) from the rear wall (16) thereby allowing that feed can be fed from the space above the top plate (9) into a space (20) which is defined by the rear side of the closing mechanism (3) and the adjacent walls of the receptacle (1). When the closing mechanism (3) is in bottom position, the top plate (9) bears on both the inner side of the front wall (15) and the inner side of the rear wall (16). The closing mechanism (3) is activated
