A dental implant 4 is made of a composition which comprises a polymeric material which is preferably polyetheretherketone (PEEK), and an apatite, for example a hydroxy-containing apatite. A prosthodontics device 2 may comprise a PEEK dental implant 4 with screw thread 6 and an internal screw thread for engaging threads 8 of a PEEK abutment 10 with a head 12 and internal thread 14 for attachment of a crown 16 which is machined from a PEEK disc. Alternatively, a one-piece PEEK implant and crown component (40, figure 7) may have a bore for receiving a tool (46) which enables the unitary component to be screwed into a mandible or maxilla.
