In order to be able to accurately detect the position of an artificial object inserted into a subject and to improve the visibility of the artificial object in the ultrasound image using a simple configuration, the ultrasound observation apparatus is provided with: a frequency analysis section for calculating a frequency spectrum by analyzing the frequency of the echo signal received from the ultrasound probe； a feature value-calculating section for calculating a feature value that reflects the shape of the frequency spectrum specific to the artificial object, which has a spatially regular structure； and an enhanced artificial object image data-generating section for generating, on the basis of said feature value, an image in which the artificial object is enhanced.Afin de pouvoir détecter avec précision la position d'un objet artificiel introduit chez un sujet et améliorer la visibilité dudit objet artificiel dans l'image ultrasonore en utilisant une configuration simple, l'appareil d'observation à ultrasons est équipé d'une partie d'analyse des fréquences permettant de calculer un spectre de fréquences en analysant la fréquence du signal échographique reçu depuis la sonde ultrasonore ； une partie de calcul d'une valeur caractéristique permettant de calculer une valeur caractéristique reflétant la forme du spectre des fréquences caractéristique de l'objet artificiel, qui possède une structure régulière d'un point de vue spatial ； et une partie de génération de données images améliorées de l'objet artificiel générant, sur la base de ladite valeur caractéristique, une image dans laquelle l'objet artificiel est rendu plus visible.簡易な構成で被検体内に挿入された人工物の位置を正確に検出することができるとともに、超音波画像中における人工物の視認性を向上させるために、超音波探触子から受信したエコー信号の周波数を解析することによって周波数スペクトルを算出する周波数解析部と、空間的に規則的な構造を有する人工物に特有の周波数スペクトル形状を反映した特徴量を算出する特徴量算出部と、その特徴量に基づいて人工物を強調表示した画像を生成する人工物強調画像データ生成部と、を備える。
