The coffin (100) comprises a base (110) for supporting the inner coffin (10)； and a cover (120) to provide at least partial covering of the inner coffin (10) when arranged on the base (110). At least part of the cover (120) is translatable in an upward direction with respect to the base (110), the coffin (100) comprising a lifting mechanism (130) constructed and arranged for lifting and lowering of the at least part of the cover (120) with respect to the base (110). The coffin (100) allows displacement of the inner coffin (10) over the base (110) by allowing passage of the inner coffin (10) from the base (110) at one end (12, 13) or side (14, 15).
