PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insufflating surgical instrument adapted for movement across an abdominal wall to insufflate an abdominal region of a patient.SOLUTION: The insufflating surgical instrument comprises: a cannula having a first wall forming a first lumen and a trocar insertable into and removable from the first lumen of the cannula. The trocar includes: a shaft which comprises a second wall forming a second lumen extending between a proximal end and a distal end, is configured to receive a laparoscope inserted into the second lumen at the proximal end, comprises a vent hole extending along the length of the shaft, and comprises at least one shaft vent hole formed across the second wall a tip positioned at the distal end, sealing the distal end of the shaft for preventing the surgical instrument from penetrating the distal end of the shaft, and formed of a transparent material to facilitate visualization of the abdominal wall and region and at least one vent hole formed at the tip and injecting a pressurized fluid to insufflate the abdominal region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
