A novel biopsy device is provided. A biopsy device includes a body, a needle, and a needle ejection mechanism. The needle includes a sharp tip and a hub. The hub portion includes a distal flange and a proximal flange. The needle ejection mechanism operates to move the needle vertically relative to the body. The needle injection mechanism includes a fork member engaged with the hub portion of the needle. The fork member is configured to engage the distal flange and includes a pair of distal ramps that contact each other at the distal ridge (or edge). The fork member further includes a pair of proximal ramps that are configured to engage the proximal flange and abut each other at the proximal ridge.
