The endoscope has a flexible endoscope shaft i.e. coloscope shaft, and an endoscope head arranged at a distal end of the endoscope shaft. A sleeve (1) is opened at an end face, and functional units are accommodated in the sleeve. The functional units comprise an optical system, a working channel, an illumination and a cooling unit for illumination. The cooling unit comprises a heat exchanger integrally formed in the sleeve with a cooling chamber (10) formed together with the sleeve for generating a coolant flow.
