A wheelchair lift for a vehicle comprises: a base (34) for securing to a vehicle； a platform (12) for accommodating a wheelchair； a lifting arm (16) connected to the base and moveable between a raised position and a lowered position so as to move the platform between a raised position and a lowered position； and a safety barrier system； wherein the safety barrier system comprises: a safety barrier (56) moveable between a closed position and an open position； and a coupling mechanism (54) arranged to couple the safety barrier to the lifting arm so as to cause the safety barrier (56) to move from its open position to its closed position as the lifting arm (16) is moved from its raised position to its lowered position and so as to cause the safety barrier (56) to move from its closed position to its open position as the lifting arm (16) is moved from its lowered position to its raised position.
