A reading system for reading information of at least one identification tag associated with a syringe connected to a fluid injector includes a detector and at least one of the at least one identification tag detected when the syringe is connected to the fluid injector. A background screen spaced from the detector so as to be positioned in the optical path between the detector and the background screen. The reading system further comprises a lighting system configured to illuminate at least a portion of the background screen.
