Methods and systems are provided for predicting future dental or orthodontic symptoms. In one aspect, a computer-implemented method is provided for calculating a future position of an oral object within a patient's oral cavity. The method may include receiving first and second digital data representing actual conditions in the oral cavity at the first and second time points. The method may include processing data including first and second digital data to calculate a velocity of the intraoral object in the oral cavity over the first and second time points.
