PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a product for ophthalmology including a soft hydrogel contact lens capable of mitigating initial discomfort of a wearer.SOLUTION: A product for ophthalmology includes a sealed and sterilized package containing a packaging solution and a soft hydrogel contact lens immersed in the packaging solution. In this case, the packaging solution contains: a homopolymer or copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone a glycerin or polyethylene glycol having the average molecular weight of 600 or smaller an α-oxo-polyacid or a salt thereof in an amount sufficient to decrease sensitivity of the polyethylene glycol in the packaging solution to oxidative decomposition and one or more buffer agents in an amount sufficient to provide a pH of from about 6.0 to about 8.0 to the solution.
