PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article which inhibits absorbed bodily fluids from generating wetback onto a surface sheet, which hardly causes a lateral leakage of the bodily fluids, and which is excellent in leakproof properties.SOLUTION: A hydrophilic intermediate sheet 5 lower in density than a surface sheet 2 is disposed between the surface sheet 2 and an absorber 4. The intermediate sheet 5 has an extension 50 extended outward in the width direction Y of the article from each of both side edges 2s and 2s, along the longitudinal direction X of the article, of the surface sheet 2. The extension 50 has a swelling 52 swelling to the side of a skin abutting surface 2a. The swelling 52 is linearly elongated in the longitudinal direction X of the article, and the top 52a of the swelling 52 is positioned above the surface sheet 2. The surface sheet 2 is lower in fluid diffusibility than the intermediate sheet 5.
