Sharing of needles and resulting needle stick injuries can lead to exposure to infective pathogens. The present retractable syringe (100) includes a dual locking system to improve the safety of syringes. The plunger (200) comprises a plunger member (210), a plunger outer (220) and one or more locking members. The plunger member (210) comprises a plunger seal (800) having one or more fluid conduits that are capable of directing fluid to the retractable needle (400). The plunger outer (220) and the one or more locking members are mounted to the plunger outer (220) and are capable of preventing or impeding further movement of the plunger member (210) relative to the plunger outer (220) and/or said barrel (110) after needle retraction.
